There are no limits on most of the included food options, and you can pretty much find free food on your cruise from the crack of dawn to late into the night. You’ll find a Steakhouse on many Carnival ships, especially the newest ones. But when I spied the Australian Wagyu entrée, I knew I had to try it. I enjoy the artistry of tableside preparation, so I was surprised that the dressing was pre-made. But when the bar runner appeared with just a carafe of wine and poured a serving into one white wine glass and then another into a Champagne flute, I was perplexed. Flagging down our waitress, she apologized and removed the glasses, promising to come right back with our bottle. To be honest, I didn’t know this was a thing until after my cruise anyway, so in the moment it wasn’t missed. But I do think it’s a nice, extra touch to “personalize” your steak. For our entrees, we got a Grilled Prime Cowboy Steak, a massive 18 oz Rib Chop Steak, and the Surf & Turf, featuring half a Maine lobster tail and a small grilled filet mignon. Dining at one of the onboard steakhouses carries a per-person fee of $38 for adults and $12 for children 11 and under. These dinner-only extra-charge venues vary from vessel to vessel, and each bears a different name and style of decor. The second thing I noticed as I approached the restaurant is the massive statue of David. This reproduction of Michelangelo’s masterpiece now sports a fig leaf (several years ago Carnival creatively covered up some of the nudes on the Renaissance-themed ship). The base of the whale tail actually creates the glass-domed ceiling of the steakhouse! Carnival ships all have the iconic “whale tail” funnel, making their vessels very easy to identify.

If you’re the type of person who loves kicking things off with an appetizer (or three), Carnival’s menus have you covered. Generally speaking, you’ll find about 10 different options in Carnival, with the always-popular shrimp cocktail available every night. Should you choose not to eat in the main dining room, you’ll also have plenty of other options, free or for fee, around the ship, as various dining venues are available. In other words, you will not be hungry during your sea vacation.
I’m hoping by then the service issues will be worked out, and I’ll update this post with any differences I notice. If you have a sweet tooth, this dessert is a must-try experience after your steakhouse meal. One of our tablemates at the MDR had dinner at David’s Steakhouse a couple of days prior. She raved about the presentation of the dessert called “Art at Your Table”—though she warned us that it was an absolute sugar bomb.

At TPG, we find that Fahrenheit 555, Carnival Cruise Line's version, is one of the best steakhouses at sea. Drink package at David’s Steakhouse for cocktails, spirits, beer, and wine by the glass with a menu price of $20.00 or lower.
